2015 Tight Lines Fishing Classic

2015 Yeppoon Coast Guard Tight Lines Fishing Classic

By John Boon

It’s time to service those reels because the 2015 Yeppoon Coast Guard Tight Lines fishing classic is just around the corner. This year it will be held during the last weekend in August from the 28th to the 30th. This is the major fundraising event for the Yeppoon coast guard, and as it allows a 24/7 marine rescue service, it’s a cause worthy of supporting.

There are a few changes to this year’s event. The biggest change is there will be a major prize drawn after the end of the senior random draws each night. So that is three major prizes up for grabs, and you don’t even have to catch a fish to be in the running. The major prizes are a motor vehicle, a boat package and a motorcycle. You can bet your left arm that I’ll be there trying to win one of those each night.

Another great change is the Corporate Team Challenge. Business names will get some hefty advertising throughout the competition. The corporate teams will consist of four anglers per team and they can enter four of their longest fish caught within the 17 species nominated. The winning team will be determined by the aggregated length of the four fish “weighed in” over each of the 3 days of the event. The winning team’s competitors will each receive a $500 voucher and the business will receive free advertising on the coast guard building valued at $2500. Very tempting to have a crack at that one.
